COURSE DESCRIPTION:
United States History is a course designed to help students understand that our country emerged from a combination of many races, nationalities, and religions to become a world power. This course covers the time period from the Reconstruction to modern times. A contemporary problem solving approach is needed at this level. All social studies disciplines need to be integrated into this course.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
*to provide you with the basic structure of U.S. History;
*to expose you to new ways to think about and to interpret history;
*to prepare you for future study of history, here or in college;
*to introduce you to a wide range of historical sources; and
*to fully prepare you to be successful on the End of Course Exam.
REQUIRED TEXT:
The Americans: Reconstruction to the 21st Century;
other selected historical primary documents.

Binder and loose leaf paper or notebook
Pen or pencil (no red ink)

GRADING POLICY:
Chapter Test and Unit Exams
Projects (at least one per 9 weeks)
Current Events Articles
Homework Assignments
Classwork (bellringers, in-class assignments, chapter notes)
GRADING SCALE:
100-93 A
92-85 B
84-75 C
74-67 D
66-0 F
HOMEWORK POLICY:
Homework is due at the beginning of the class period. Anytime within 24 hours from that point, you will be given half credit. After that time period, you will receive a zero.
MAKE-UP POLICY:
Depending on the amount of time missed, work will need to be made up within 5 days of returning to school. Missed test will not be made up during class time. An RPSB teacher will be available one morning before school and one day after school per week for make up tests. Students may also make up missed exams during lunch time.
