Reminders:

Your child will have homework every night.  Spelling words to study and practice, reading comprehension or spiral review homework, and they usually will have a social studies study guide to study and social studies vocabulary to study.

It is very important that you help your child study for social studies this year.  The standards changed last year and they will be reading high level vocabulary words and text that may be difficult for them to read and recall.  The vocabulary words will be tested as well as the content that will be on the study guide.

Please encourage your child to read at least 20 minutes every night.  Try having them read aloud to you so that you may listen for fluency.  Ask your child about what they read.  Have them retell it in their own words.

Also, encourage your child to write in complete sentences as much as possible.  Go over their writings with them and celebrate them.  Talk about any mistakes that you may find to demonstrate the editing process.   In third grade they are expected to write at least 3 paragraph essays for most writing prompts.  The essays will be typed, so having them practice typing on a device at home will help them this year.

Please send a bottle of water to school with your child because we don't always have time to let them get water after recess and PE.  They have to remember to do it during their break.  If they have their own bottle of water in class, I allow them to drink from it after recess, after PE, and when we return from the restroom breaks, since we can't bring them all to get water after some of their breaks.
