Course Description:
This course is designed to meet state science standards in both life science and earth and space science. It allows for a student-centered learning environment where students collaborate in project based learning. The students should expect to find the curriculum engaging and rigorous.

1 inch three ring binder
1 Composition Notebook
2 packs of Loose-leaf notebook paper
Pencils and Pens (Blue or Black in only)
Highlighters
Post-It Notes
Grading Policy:
The RPSB grading scale will be followed.

*Rubrics will be given for projects, labs, and experiments.
Due Dates & Deadlines:
Due dates and deadlines are firm and may not be extended.
Bonus:
Students should not depend on bonus points; however, each test will have an opportunity for students to earn up to five bonus points.
Class Participation:
Please make every possible effort to be present every day. We will move quickly covering a lot of material daily. If you must be absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed. Participation in class discussions and activities is crucial to the successful completion of this course.
Make-up Work:
For excused absences, make-up tests will be administered at the convenience of the teacher. In order to make up a lab grade, an alternate assignment will be given. Make-ups will only be given before school or after school. Students will need a pass to enter the building for any make-up assignments. The make-up is to be taken within 5 school days.
Classroom Management Plan:
For Minor Infractions:
First Occurrence: Student will receive a warning and may receive a detention.
Second Occurrence: Teacher will conference with the student and will call home. A detention will be given.
Third Occurrence: Teacher will conference with student, call home, and write a state referral.
For Major Infractions:
The student(s) will be sent immediately to the office and a state referral will follow.
Expectations & Procedures:
It is expected that students will conduct themselves as mature, responsible young adults. No behavior that disrupts the flow of learning will be tolerated.

1. Be in your seat, materials ready when the tardy bell rings. All homework is due in the basket before the tardy bell. |
1. Come to class late. No homework will be accepted after the tardy bell without an excused admit. Students who arrive within 5 minutes without an admit are considered tardy. Students who are more than 5 minutes late without an admit are considered truant and will be sent to the office. Students who are habitually tardy will receive a referral. |

2. Begin work on the bellringer immediately. Bellringers and homework will be added together for one major grade each 9 weeks. |
2. Talk during the bellringer. Students who talk during bellringers, tests, exit tickets and other individual assignments will receive the following: first offense, minus 5%, second offense, minus 25%, third offense, a zero on the work. |

3. Contribute meaningfully to class discussions and follow established expectations for experiments, individual work, group work, and whole-class work. (These are posted in the classroom). |
3. Disrupt learning with verbal, physical or attitudinal behaviors. |

4. Follow the Rapides Parish Acceptable Use Policy regarding technology. |
4. Use technology inappropriately so as to lose technology privileges. Students who lose technology privileges will not be allowed to complete some assignments in class and will receive zeroes on these assignments. |
