¡Hola Estudiantes!

Once we return to school, remember to bring your Chromebooks and earbuds to Spanish class each week!
Dear Parents, Guardians, Students and Stakeholders,
Over the past few years we have been converting our Spanish classroom into a Learner-Active, Technology-Infused Classroom. This method of instruction and philosophy of education relies on the seamless integration of technology into the classroom. It also give students the ability to choose their own pathways to learning the curriculum. Students can use individual studies, small-group activities, online posts and blogs, mini-lessons, group games, as well as the occasional whole class lesson/activity. We are expanding our classroom into the digital world. As such, each homeroom has a Google Classroom where they will complete assignments, post real-life examples of Spanish in their world, discuss different curricular activities, view video clips, listen to authentic language samples, and anything else that we can come up with during the year. The content on the Google Classroom site is held to the same behavioral standards as our actual classroom. All school rules apply and students are expected to follow our Code of Conduct both in class and online.
In addition, are following the ACTFL(American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Langauges) guidelines regarding the modern language classroom. We focus on instruction in three modes of communication according to the ACTFL. We use the Interpersonal Mode, Interpretive Mode and the Presentational Mode of communication. Please see the ACTFL link for more information on these areas of communication. As such, the emphasis on instruction has been shifted from what a student knows about the Spanish language to what they can DO in the Spanish language. Coupling this philosophy with the Learner-Active, Technology-Infused Classroom mentioned above, we will create learners who can functionally use the Spanish language for a number of various exchanges on their individual readiness levels. If you studied a language previously in your personal education, this course will seem very different than what you may have experienced. We focus on engaging students in the target langauge of Spanish and encouraging them to work together to think creatively and critically to improve their own communication in Spanish through all three modes of communication. Please see the Class Information link to the right for more about our classroom philosophy.
¡Hasta pronto!

ALL STUDENTS:

The BEST way for you to learn and acquire more of the Spanish language is to use it on a daily basis...
You should be exposing your ears to the Spanish language at least three times per week for a minimum of ten minutes each session. You can accomplish this by watching your favorite tv show in Spanish, watching a sports game in Spanish, listening to a Spanish internet radio, speaking Spanish to a family member or friend, or by any other means. This is an outstanding assignment that will help you start to understand the Spanish language. Don't "try" to understand what is being said, just let your brain absorb the language--Use your INTERPRETIVE MODE of communication!
