WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP
COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH / PHYSICAL EDUCATION
PHILOSOPHY
The Washington Township Comprehensive Health Curriculum addresses not only the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards and the national measures within the discipline, but also and most important, our District's vision of a systematic, comprehensive and innovative approach to comprehensive health/physical education.
All students will be able to make dynamic life choices that place emphasis upon nurturing the physical, mental/emotional and social well-being forces that make up the human condition. They will also be able to design and model a healthy life-style that emphasizes the importance of balance in all areas of their lives and the individual responsibility for maintaining their health.
COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH / PHYSICAL EDUCATION
MISSION STATEMENTS
1. Wellness programs focus on educating all children regardless of their abilities, from a health-related viewpoint.
2. Wellness programs emphasize the personal nature of participation in life-long physical activity. 3. Wellness programs help a person acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes of a lifetime of physical activity. 4. Wellness programs emphasize the four components of Health Related Fitness. (CDC 1997) 5. The objectives of teaching health related fitness are met when the process becomes a regular, permanent part of a person’s life. 6. Knowing how to be healthy and physically active is probably more important than knowing why. 7. Wellness programs acknowledge the process rather than the product.
