Dear Future First Grader,

Hello! My name is Mrs. Weber, your first-grade teacher for this year!  Some of you may have seen me floating around last year or remember me from recess!!  I can’t wait to meet each of you and to get an amazing year started!!   For those of you who will be new to Kossmann School this year, you are going to love it!  There are so many wonderful and helpful people here, who will make you feel just as wonderful as I did on my first day of school at Kossmann SO many years ago!!

I hope you’ve all had a chance to sit back and relax with a good book this summer!  I enjoy reading, and will get to read to you often this year.  On the first day of school, please bring a favorite book that you like to read or like having read to you. We will take time throughout the first week of school to share a few of these stories with each other, and I will bring in my favorite to share with you!

First Grade is SO MUCH FUN and I want to make sure you have all of the school supplies you need in order to make this year as successful as possible!

Here is a list of school supplies needed for the year…

1.     A backpack with your name on it.

2.     One nutritious snack that can be eaten as you work (each day).

3.     A pencil box with your name on it, big enough to hold all of your belongings, but small enough to fit in your desk. Please fill your pencil box with plenty of pencils, erasers, crayons, markers, colored pencils, gluesticks, 2 highlighters, 2 dry erase markers and a pair of scissors

 4.     A lunch and/or an account set up with the cafeteria.

 5.     A 1-inch binder, with a plastic sleeve/cover on front, and 1 package of plastic sleeve protectors to use inside this binder (we use these for our 1st Grade Memory Books).

 7.     4 boxes of #2 pencils.

 8.     1, 30- pack of glue sticks (we use these DAILY for word sorts).

 9.     A pair of wired headphones, labeled with your name & teacher’s name in a Ziplock baggie for your chrome book & to travel back and forth to Library & Technology each week.

10.    1 plain white T-shirt that will fit you at the end of the school year (labeled with your name on it).

11.     1 shoebox (please keep these at home for the time being). We will need them at the end of the month but I figured with “back to school shoe shopping” you could put one or two aside for a special project we will have ;)

The rest… we’ll have covered for you!! On the first day of school you’ll receive SO many school supplies from me! A chrome book, classwork folder, writing folder, spelling sort notebook, spelling dictionary, grammar/sentence a day notebook, book box, so many math manipulatives, a math journal, etc. ALL of these items will stay in the classroom. You will also get a very special red “Take Home” Folder from me! This is the most important school supply of all, as it will travel between home and school each day/night.

We are also always looking for donations of baby wipes and/or antibacterial gel to clean our hands throughout the day. In addition, zip lock bags of all sizes are also a very much appreciated donation, since we will be using them frequently to store individual supplies, learning manipulatives, books, etc.

Wow!! I think this covers it!! I can’t wait to meet each of you at our Classroom Walkthrough on August 28th at 2:20.  Information will be communicated to you from the office regarding this fun day! I can’t wait to meet new faces, and see old familiar ones too!! Enjoy your last few days of summer!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Weber
