Hello to my OFRS FAMILY!!

I miss seeing all of your smiling faces :-)

I am available via email, electronically via 'google meet'for teletherapy sessions as needed, or over the phone.  I am here for a "check-in" or simply if your child would like to connect and say hello!

*(Please note this does not replace any immediate intervention or psychiatric concern you may have for yourself or your child) *. If you need immediate assistance please call 911.

Remote school-based counseling can help ease the transition during this time of change.  Please click on the links below and under updates for more in-depth information and other services that are available in our community.

Email is the best and most immediate and personal way to communicate.  All of my contact information is listed below.  I look forward to hearing from you!  I miss seeing your smiling faces at school!

I  find the resource page: extremely helpful for educators, parents, and students.  It is full of updated and practical information for families!

Daily Quarantine Questions:

  1. What am I GRATEFUL for today?
  3. What expectations of "normal" am I LETTING GO OF today?
  4. How am I GETTING OUTSIDE today?
  5. How am I MOVING MY BODY today?
  6. What BEAUTY am I either creating, cultivating, or inviting in today?

This is a useful article from Morris Psychological Group on managing what is our "Temporary New Normal".

I would like to share something from Rabbi Yosef Kanefsky that I found inspiring:

"Every hand that we don't shake must become a phone call that we place."

"Every embrace that we avoid must become a verbal expression of warmth and concern."

"Every inch and every foot that we physically place between ourselves and another, must become a thought as to how we might be of help to that other, should the need arise."

My name is Jana Rojas and I am the Elementary Counselor/CST Social Worker at Old Farmers Road School.  My goal is to provide your children with a positive sense of caring, respect, and community at school.  It is a privilege to work with your children, and I
enjoy coming to school every day. OFRS is near and dear to my heart, as I also began my "career" here as a kindergarten student!

When students feel socially and emotionally competent, they are ready to learn!  For some children, this comes naturally, and for others...they may need a little bit of support and guidance. Please see below for a general idea of what my School-based Counseling and Character Development Program provides for your children:

School-based Counseling: Confidential short-term individual and/or small group counseling for children who may be experiencing difficulty with adjustment, anxiety, behavior, and/or any social-emotional concerns.  Children may be referred for counseling support by their teachers and/or their parents.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your child and I will do my best to assist you and your children.

Character Development:  Classroom lessons address school-based issues that kids face every day.  Problem-solving, bullying, friendship skills, and conflict resolution are some of the topics that are covered.

Child Study Team Social Worker:  As a member of the Child Study Team at OFRS, I work in collaboration with the LDT-C and School Psychologist to implement strategies and accommodations to meet the learning needs of all of our students.

Member of the I&RS Committee:  The Intervention and Referral Services Committee is a collaborative committee comprised of the teacher, student's parents, literacy instructor, LDT-C and school principal.  The purpose of this committee is to brainstorm and implement a plan to best meet the needs of each learner.

Anti-bullying Specialist:  I share this position with our school psychologist.  My role in this position is to foster a positive school culture and climate in an effort to prevent acts of bullying at OFRS.  The investigative portion of this position is performed by our school psychologist, Mrs. Nicole Drury.  Please refer to the website for further information on the HIB (Harassment, Intimidation, & Bullying Policy).

Please feel free to contact me anytime at (908) 876-3865 x 4136 or via email at I   look forward to speaking with you!
