Typing Spanish Accents

The ALT KEY

The Spanish Alphabet is very similar to the English Alphabet with the exception of some letters such as CH, á, é,í, etc.
The ALT KEY plays an important role to write these letters. The combination of ALT KEY and a code number allow us to create these special characters.
An example, to create the letter ñ, you have to use the combination of ALT KEY and the code number 164, and the result will be ñ.

The Spanish Alphabet

The Spanish Alphabet is structured by the following letters. A, b, c, ch, d, e, f, g, h, I, j, k, l, ll, m, n, ñ, o, p, q, r, s, t, u, v, w, x, y, and z. Many of these letters needs special characters such as ñ, and many others need to be accents. That's why we need to know how to write these special characters, in order to write properly.
To write these characters, press and hold ALT key, while holding down this key, enter the code number, and release.

USING Alt key( Alt):

To type the special punctuation characters,:

Hold down on the Alt key while you strike the appropriate punctuation mark with the giving number for each character:

  • á = Alt + 0225
  • é = Alt + 0233
  • í = Alt + 0237
  • ó = Alt + 0243
  • ú = Alt + 0250
  • ñ = Alt + 0241
  • ü = Alt + 0252
  • ¡ = Alt + 0161

When using this system, there are two important things to remember.
First, when you type in the numbers, some keyboards require that you use the "numeric keypad" located to the side, rather than the numbers along the top.

USING apostrophe key: ( ')

To type the special characters, two keystrokes are required.

To type the á, you need only strike the apostrophe key and then the letter a.

The other characters are just as easy:

  • á = ' + a
  • é = ' + e
  • í = ' + i
  • ó = ' + o
  • ú = ' + u
  • ñ = ~ + n
  • ü = " + u
