Thank you to Ms. Julie and all of our students for making my birthday a special one last month. I was showered with plenty of surprises including homemade cards by students and a gift basket. Thank you for thinking of me!
What’s New? What are we learning about and working on over the next few months?

Reading – inferencing, character analysis, comprehension strategies, retelling, answering questions in writing with text support & complete sentences

Math – addition and subtraction of multi-digit numbers, money, measurement

Science – Insects and Plants

Social Studies – Environmental Issues

Language Arts – Literature related to the environment and human impact on the environment

Writing – Expository writing, planning using a pillar and graphic organizers, finding main idea and supporting details, using elaborative details in complete sentences, journal writing

Spelling – Continuing word sorts, site word practice
What’s going on with Homework?

Reading – Read 15 minutes daily. Do Raz-kids when chromebooks are home!

Math – Pencil pages - be sure to follow directions and see the explain pages for help and guidance. Practice facts everyday! Practice time and money.
**Hand in homework on time! Review graded work when it comes home.**
What can parents Encourage students to do?

Follow Classroom rules. Show respect to the teachers and students.

Be responsible. Be NEAT and organized.

Follow directions. Check over all work before handing it in.

Write your name on all papers.

Stay focused and Give your best effort on all you do!

Work quietly during independent work times (save chatting with friends for recess/lunch).

Transition from one activity to another in a quick, quiet manner.
What’s going on with snacks and lunch?

Be sure your child has a snack every day, separate from their lunch.

Please always send a water bottle in with your child.
What can parents do to help?

Help students check their homework for completion, accuracy and neatness.

Provide a structured time for homework and encourage independence.
-
Review graded work with your child and keep it at home. Clean out homework folders and Friday folders every week.

Help your child pack their backpack and also clean out their backpack. Please do not send in toys or personal objects.

Have students dress in layers (example wear zip up sweatshirt with t-shirt) in case students get cold in air conditioning.
