Dear Parents,
Hello friends and families! Summer is right around the corner! We have officially started the countdown!
First, I’d like to thank all the parents who participated in our Parent read aloud program this year. Students thoroughly enjoyed all of the books that you read. It was always a highlight to see parents come in to read to us! The students loved seeing their moms, dads and grandparents!
I’d also like to thank our fabulous Room Moms for all they did for our class this year. The parties and activities were awesome! Students really enjoyed the special events you planned for us and all the goodies you gave them! Thank you Mrs. Campion and Ms. Tremain!
In class, we learned a lot of new things and had fun! Over the last couple of weeks we have been learning about national symbols and holidays. Students wrote a story about the Statue of Liberty going on an adventure. In math we have been studying equal groups and repeated addition to prepare for multiplication in third grade. For science, we continued to investigate insects and our plants. We recently watched caterpillars turn into butterflies and then we released them! We also grew our own Brassica plants. Right now we are observing silkworms and milkweed bugs.
Over the next few weeks, we will complete some end-of-year assessments. Please encourage students to take their time and give their best effort. I always encourage them to check over their work before submitting it to the teacher.
In Language Arts/Social Studies we are working in small groups to research a national symbol and make a poster. Each group will then teach the rest of the class about their symbol. In Math we are completing our final unit. Our class will also complete our Spelling end-of-year test!
I’m so proud of the students who participated in the reading log homework. We had some students that reached their goals of 100 this year and even over 200! Way to go! Please continue to read over the summer and log onto RAZ to practice reading and answering comprehension questions. When reading with someone, practice using expression and good fluency and also retell the story after reading.
It’s been such an awesome year! Thanks for all your support! If you need to touch base with me before our last day, please email me to let me know a good time to reach you. I hope you enjoy the last couple of weeks of school!
Sincerely, Mrs. Mackenzie
