September 2023

      Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to first grade! We are so thrilled to be your child’s first grade teachers for the 2023-2024 school year. It is also with great excitement to announce that our classroom theme is “Under the Sea.” Get ready for a wonderful year as we “dive deep” into learning! In first grade, we will focus on developing foundational phonics, reading, and writing skills. We will also work on mastering addition and subtraction fact fluency. To support what is taught during classroom instruction, it is strongly encouraged that your child continues to practice these skills at home. All students will be taught how to follow structured classroom procedures and routines. They will also learn the importance of being respectful and working together with others within the classroom.

Aside from the aspects of learning, we believe in the importance of  establishing good communication throughout the school year. This year we will be using an app called Seesaw to communicate regarding your child’s academic and behavioral progress. Classroom announcements and pictures will also be shared through this app. Please see the instructions attached regarding how to make a Seesaw Family Account. Besides Seesaw, you can also contact us by sending in a note in your child’s folder. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to send us an email at [email protected] and [email protected]

Before getting started with classroom activities,we would like to provide you with some helpful reminders. Summer Bridges Assignments for Language Arts and Mathematics are due no later than Monday, September 25th. The instructions for those assignments are posted on our faculty webpage. Back to School Night will take place on Tuesday, September 26th. If you have not done so already, please purchase the items listed on the “Suggested Grade 1 Supply List” as soon as possible. It is important that all school supplies and personal belongings are labeled with your child’s first and last name. Please note that no supplies will be shared.

Looking forward to a FIN-tastic school year!

Sincerely,

Miss Spann & Miss Patterson
