Brimm Medical Arts High School 2020-2021

Welcome to a new school year!

This is a reading intensive course. The subject matter spans a large temporal area, from the late 1700s to the present. We will examine the African American experience through literature and a variety of genres and mediums.

The objectives of this course are to give students an introduction to the vast array of prose, poetry, and drama that make up much of African American literature; to provide the opportunity to explore the diverse nature of this literature; to help students develop a deeper understanding of the ever-evolving issues involved in defining the American literary canon; and to encourage the reading of literature with a fine critical understanding and aesthetic appreciation.

I look forward to examining the text together and navigating our way through the past, present and future via literary works. Let’s get it!
