Welcome to Mrs. Bouterse's 4th Grade Class!

(Formerly Ms. Gibbs)

(Book Talks from 11:00-11:35 and Picnic with Parents 11:35-12:30)

Here are some updates about what students will be learning

during the week of June 6th:

Math: This week we will wrap up Unit 7 of Everyday Math.  In this unit, students will learn how to convert between gallons, quarts, pints, and quarts, multiply a fraction by a whole number, solve fraction and decimal number stories, identify and continue shape and number patterns, and create/analyze a line plot.

Reading: We will wrap up Unit 6 of Reader's Workshop.  In this unit students will work on a research project - focusing on analyzing the biography of a famous American.  To wrap up the unit and present their research, students will create a poster project displaying all of their learning.  To see these posters, please join us for our Literacy and Lunch on June 6th!

Science:   Students will wrap up our Landform Unit.   This week, students will focus on creating a design solution to solve Jamaica's beach erosion problem.  Students will build breakwaters and/or seawalls.

Writing:  Please visit Mrs. Madison's website weekly for more information about writing.

Social Studies:  Please visit Mrs. Doty's website for more information about social studies.

Other Important Reminders:

  • All library books must be returned by Friday, June 2nd.

  • On most Monday through Thursday evenings, your child will typically be assigned a math home link, 20 minutes of reading, and a spelling or vocabulary assignment.  More information will be sent home about these when they are assigned in the next couple weeks.  Science, writing, and social studies assignments will occur periodically.  Your child’s typical homework should take no more than 40 minutes to complete.  If it is taking longer than this, please let me know as soon as possible.  If homework is not complete, the only time available to make it up is during Friday Advisory (a 15 minute extra recess that occurs as a reward most Fridays).

  • Please review and sign your child’s assignment notebook each evening.  Students will “check-out” with me each afternoon before they leave school to be sure they have included every assignment in their notebook for that day.  I will initial the notebook if it is complete to allow you to be fully aware of all assignments.  In the morning I will “check-in” with your child to see that you have signed your child’s assignment notebook.  Hopefully this also means your child has completed their assignments for that evening.

  • Don't forget to pack a snack each day!  We will have a snack break around 9:30 -10:00 a.m. daily, but students must bring their own healthy snacks - nut free please!

  • Please check this website weekly, as it will serve as our classroom newsletter and will inform you of important notes/dates and our plans for the upcoming week.

  • Click on the "Encore" section of my website to check our daily encore schedule.
