Welcome to High School ELA!

My name is Joey Nipper. I have been a teacher at the Louisiana School for the Deaf for 30 years. Students enrolled in my classes address the Common Core State Standards using the state-adopted textbook Collections (Houghton, Mifflin, Harcourt). Every nine weeks they address these standards by reading anchor and related texts, writing short and extended responses (essays), and participating in a variety of discussions, research projects, and language skills development activities.

Our motto for the 2015-2016 school year is "Striving for Excellence." It is my expectation that your children will achieve to the best of their ability in my class. I am looking forward to helping them throughout the year as they "Strive for Excellence!" If you have any questions, you can reach me at my school e-mail address jnipper@lalsd.org .
