ELA and READING

Mrs. Cook has returned to the High School department this school year to teach an Applied English class and to provide Reading Remediation. These classes will offer students the opportunity to further develop their language, writing, vocabulary and comprehension skills through the state's standards, as well as supplemental multi-level materials, in preparation for this year's state testing.

Both classes will allow students to engage in small-group centers incorporating current technology and weekly progress monitoring to help foster a desire for reading, writing, and learning.   Some of the engaging and motivating classroom activities will include story video segments, computer activites, vocabulary video ASL dictionaries, and a class competition for the highest amount of words read.

As a parent, please encourage your child to read and write on a regular basis.  In support of this, homework will be assigned each night Monday through Thursday to reinforce language skills.

HIGH SCHOOL PHYSICAL SCIENCE

This school year Mrs. Cook is also lending her teaching skills to lead one high school physical science class. This class will focus on the properties and aspects of non-living elements in our world, and incorporating weekly experiements and hands-on projects and activities to help provide real-life experience and application to the scientific concepts being taught.  Stay tuned for lab pictures and details regarding what we are learning.
