Class Description:  The purpose of this course is to provide an advanced educational experience in the language arts strands of reading, writing, listening, viewing, speaking, language, and literature. Content will include, but is not limited to, constructing meaning from various texts; using the writing process to communicate ideas; listening, speaking, and viewing strategies; understanding and using language in authentic contexts; understanding features of literary forms; and responding critically to visual, oral, and written texts.

 

Required Materials: 1 Subject Notebook/ 3-ring Binder: for daily notes, vocabulary, and handouts, 1 Set of pencils: to be used in all classes, 1 Set of pens: to be used in all classes, 1 Ream of Loose-leaf paper (to be kept in binder), 1 Ream of Copy Paper (to be kept in classroom)

 

Homework:  Homework is an important part of demonstrating the mastery of a concept or skill.  Homework is to be turned in the next class for full credit. 

 

Make-up Work:  When a student is absent, the student has the same number of days plus one to turn in make-up work.  It is the student’s responsibility to see the teacher for missed work.

 

Plagiarism: If any student is caught submitting another student’s work, resubmitting work from another class, copying from the internet, and/or trying to pass off any work that isn’t his/her original thoughts, then he/she will receive a zero for the assignment and will be reprimanded to the fullest extent as described by the Lee County School District’s policy in the student’s Code of Conduct. Plagiarism is not tolerated under any circumstances.

 

Discipline:  Students are responsible for their actions and reactions.  Having a positive, constructive learning environment is essential to student success.  Students are expected to follow county, school, and classroom rules and procedures.
