  ELL English

 

 

What is it?

 

    

   ELL English is a class for ELL(English Language Learners) students and it fulfills the English requirement for graduation. It follows the Core Curriculum Standards and well as the WIDA (World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment.) This class will focus on English grammar, vocabulary, reading literature, reading informational text and writing. While working on these aspects, students will also be improving their English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. The goal of this class is facilitate our students becoming successful and effective in our global society. 

 

How will this be done?

 

   To facilitate our students in becoming successful global citizens multiple modalities will be utilize.  ELL English is a sheltered classroom where students will learn the curriculum in an environment that allows students to work at and beyond their English acquisition level.  Students will be reading literature such as "Romeo and Juliet" and "Frankenstein."  They will also be reading and analyzing informational text. While reading these texts, students will work on learning English grammar, vocabulary and writing skills utilizing various performance tasks.

 

Who will be the students' facilitator?

 

   Margaret McGowan is the facilitator of learning for ELL English at Egg Harbor Township High School. Mrs. McGowan has earned the following degrees, Bachelor of Science from Purdue University, IN; Bachelor of Arts in Teaching and ELL certification from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, NJ; Master’s Degree in Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), from Grand Canyon University, AZ.  Mrs. McGowan also works and collaborates with Anthony Pecchia and Courtney Casto, Egg Harbor Township High School English as a Foreign Language teachers.  Collaborating as a team is an effective strategy to facilitate students in learning English skills while preparing them to become successful and effective citizens for our global society.
