Mission Statement

The school health nurse assists students, families, and staff in attaining and maintaining optimal health and health attitudes. School nurses strengthen and facilitate the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of children and staff, and by identifying and assisting in the improvement of health-related barriers to the learning process.

Dear Round Valley School Families,

Each year we welcome students to our classrooms with food allergies.  We request your cooperation to help everyone stay safe.

We have students who are allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, sesame and other foods or food groups.  Reactions range from mild to life threatening.  There are several practices that will be in place to help prevent allergic reactions:

  1. Students will be encouraged to wash their hands upon arrival to the classroom and again before or after eating.
  2. All classrooms will be designated as peanut, tree nut, and sesame free spaces.  Please do not send in snacks containing peanut, tree nuts or sesame products.  There will be no classroom projects with peanut butter or peanut shells.  Please do not send any of these projects into the classroom with your child.
  3. Parents who send a lunch from home for their children are free to pack foods of their choice for students to eat in the cafeteria.
  4. There will be special days and occasions during PTA Celebration Days when parents bring in snacks to share.  Please contact me for additional information regarding “allergy safe” foods.

We look forward to working together to have a wonderful year at Round Valley School.  If you have any questions regarding our “Allergy Aware” classrooms, please contact your teacher or our school nurse, Mrs. Susan Straight, at 908-236-6341, press prompt 2 or via email at sstraight@ctsdnj.org  .  Thank you!
