Welcome To Carleton School!
My name is John Mullarkey and I am the math specialist at Carleton School for both 4th and 5th grade. During the school year, I may be working with your child or in your child's classroom. My goal is to help support and encourage students in mainly math as well as in ELA. If I work in and with your child's class, I encourage you to reach out to me at any time, night or day, about any questions you may have in our program at Carleton and how I can best help your child.
Fourth and Fifth grade is a major stepping stone in a child's academic life. Students are growing academically as well as emotionally and socially. Our shared goal this year is to help your child grow smarter and build character in all parts of their life. To grow, students need to "step up and step out" of their comfort zones to develop their talents. We are excited in 4th and 5th grade to begin this process!
Some ways to help your student practice building their academic skills are daily reading, Lexia practice, and IXL practice for math skills. Books for reading should align with their independent reading level and should be of interest to the reader. When using IXL for math practice make sure to do challenging skills that will help the student grow and deepen their math knowledge.
If you have any questions or concerns as the year goes forward, please let me know. I believe in over-communication rather than under-communication! Please e-mail, call, or text me at any time to share any need you or your student has throughout the year. As we communicate, we can make this year truly great!!
