Welcome to 7th grade science. During this school we will be studying a variety of interesting topics. We will begin the year studying forces and motion. Included in this unit of study will be Newton's Laws of Motion (covered in more depth than students may have had in earlier grades.)
As the year progresses we will also study Forms of Energy, Energy Transfer and Conservation of Energy, Energy Transformations, Electricity and Magnetism, and the History of Earth and Plate Tectonics.
October 1st, 2016
I sent a letter home last week with all of the students I teach. I've been very fortunate over the past 23 years and have only had to take a few sick days in that time. Unfortunately, I will have to take four to five weeks off beginning October 6th. In my absence Ms. Kelsey Champion, a certified science teacher, will be a long term substitute in my room. I look forward to returning to the classroom, but I am confident your child will recieve quality instruction from Ms. Champion.
****************Important Parent Note:*********************
I use Powerschool as a form of communication with you. All assignments will be in Powerschool as soon as I assign them. For example, if I assign homework I put it in Powerschool before I leave in the evening. Tests will usually be posted about 5 days in advance, quizzes 1 or 2 days in advance, and projects may be posted weeks before they are due. If you don't have access to Powerschool the office can give you a password specific to your child's information. This is a great way for you to know what is coming up.
Students will need to bring the following supplies for science class:
◊ A three ring binder in which assignments will be kept
◊ Student name, class period, and "Science Notebook" must be visible on the cover
◊ Dividers to separate the notebook into two sections: Critical Thinking Question
(CTQ), Notes & Labs.
◊ Loose leaf paper
The Notebook must be brought to class everyday and will be graded during each marking period. Points will be based on completeness, neatness, and timely submission.
Due to the number of students I have I cannot accept e-mailed reports from students. I need to have hard copies in order to make comments that help the students. All documents that I print are done so on my own printer, the cost and time to print reports would be prohibitive.
