Kindergartners are evaluated in six areas:
 
  • Literacy – this includes evaluations for how well a child recognizes his/her own name, letters, rhyming words, hearing rhyming words, reading left to right, associating sounds with letters, sight vocabulary and more.
  • Math – at this level, children are asked to interpret data using pictographs, tally charts and tables, communicate math thinking logically, recognize coins, add or subtract to solve word problems, and form numbers correctly.
  • Science/Social Studies/Health – participates in activities and demonstrates understanding of concepts.
  • Creative Arts - evaluates participation level in music, games, art, computers, and foreign language.
  • Personal and Social developments – how well does your child have a sense of self and relate to others, show confidence and observe classroom rules.
  • Physical Development – demonstrates small and large motor skills important to a young student’s development as jumping, hopping, ball-handling, skipping, cutting, and gluing
  • English as a Second Language (if services are required) – targets children’s listening, speaking, reading, and writing ability as they improve their English language skills.
 
Students receive designations for each of their skill or area of development: Above/ Meets/Approaching/ Below Grade Level/Needs Strengthening/Demonstrates. Teacher narratives are included as well.
