Syllabus for 2D

 

Requirements:

  1. Participation, communication, respect for everyone in the room.
  2. Punctuality, ability to accomplish objectives; time management, focus, & commitment to projects.
  3. Respect for tools and materials, proper set up and clean up
  4. Following the steps to creative problem solving: Answer the question- write- visualize- sketch- create final work of art.

 

Projects:

  • Each project will have five criteria- each worth 20-25 points.  
  • Genuine effort and following the criteria is the most important in project grades.
  • Classroom projects will have official last days, however, extra time will be available in case of absence or if a student would like to progress with a project further than the requirements.
  • Turning in Projects: It is your responsibility to turn in each project when required. 
  • Completed artwork must have a name and period number on it as well as on the rubric in order to be graded.
  • We work independently as well as collaboratively to develop personal innovative visual solutions, avoiding cliché.  Students will develop personal statements using a variety of visual media.

 

Homework

  • Homework assignments are worth 20 points and vary from sketchbook assignments to writing assignments

 

Participation

Studies will include the fundamentals of visual art, color theory, artistic vocabulary, and art critique.  Students are graded based on class participation, discussions, critiques, and challenges. 

 

Possible Projects/ Media

The media explored are (but not limited to): pencil, ink, marker, watercolor, charcoal, acrylic paint, and any combination of these.  Projects include drawing from observation, self-portraiture, painting, figure drawing, and printmaking.  The art room should be a place to explore personal talents and creativity in a safe and productive atmosphere.
