A Message From Mrs. Abreu
Welcome to 5th Grade! I am the homeroom teacher for room 306 and the 5th grade
Math teacher. On this web page, you will find information on some of our goals for the school year, reminders for parents and students, as well as fun and useful math links. I look forward to working with you in making this school year one filled with fun, exciting, challenging, and productive activities!
Math Matters
- I will encourage students to work independently and cooperatively to solve open-ended math problems.
- My goal is to increase confidence in their ability to use math by making Math a fun experience.
- Parents, please remember to review math facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with your child every night.
- Students should practice the Times Tables at least 5 -10 minutes every night.
- Technology will be incorporated in the lessons through the use of computer programs and math sites. Please see the Math Links at the bottom of the page. These links will provide your child with a fun, interactive way to review what they have learned in class.
- The math textbook can be found on the Savvas link on wnyschools.net on ClassLink. All students can log in the same way they do in class.
The Importance of Homework
- Math homework is crucial in reviewing and practicing skills already learned in class.
- All students need to complete their assignments every night.
- Remember not to use calculators to solve problems and to show all of your work.
- Parents please make sure your child does their homework and check their homework every night. Together we can help your child succeed academically.
- All homework and any reminders of missing or late work and test dates will be posted on Google Classroom.
State Test
In May, your child will be taking the NJSLA assessment. In 5th grade, this assessment focuses on Language Arts, Math, and Science. As your child's Math teacher, it is my goal to prepare your child to do their best on the NJSLA.
