Mrs. Sieling's Class 2023-2024
Hello!
I hope you had a great summer. I’m sad it’s coming to an end, but glad we get to start a new year together! I had an exciting and busy summer. My family and I went to the Jersey Shore, visited Boston, went swimming in our neighbor's pool, played, moved to a new house, and read a lot of books.
There are a lot of things I’m excited to share with you. In September we will be starting a garden in the school courtyard. We are going to grow all different kinds of vegetables and maybe some fruit. Our pet composting worms will help!
In October we have some very special visitors, trout eggs! We will watch them hatch, grow, and hopefully get to release them in the spring.
The school will be hosting an open house Tuesday, September 5th from 2:00-3:00. I hope to meet you there! You will be able to see the classroom and we will get to meet.
I hope you are looking forward to the new school year. You don’t need to bring anything to school on the first day except a smile, lunch (if you don’t get lunch at school), and a nut-free snack.
See you on September 6th for a full day of school!
Mrs. Sieling

Dear Parents,
It’s a pleasure to meet you! I look forward to welcoming your child back to school in September.
A little about me so we’re not strangers: This is my 18th year working at Van Holten School and I have taught LLD at different grade levels for 8 years. I went to school at Monmouth University and got my Orton Gillingham training through Fairleigh Dickinson University. I am married and have two daughters, a 6 year old and a 4 year old. We also have 2 cats and a few fish, which find their way into the stories I tell in the classroom. I love to read and cook.
I have a few favors to ask.
-
If you have a chance, please send me (either in an envelope on the first day, or digitally) a picture or two of your family. We will be using these during the first week of school.
-
Please send in an extra set of clothes for your child to keep at school in case of mud, water, chalk, paint, or other mishaps. Learning is a messy business.
-
Please tell me anything important about your child and family. This helps me develop a relationship with your child and make our classroom a more friendly place. Do you have pets? Who lives with you? What does your child like to play with? What do you do as a family on weekends? Anything! If there are difficult family circumstances I’d like to know that too. It all helps.
-
If anything comes up during the year, questions, concerns, your child is struggling with something, your child is having a bad day, please let me know! Knowing, helps me, help them.
I look forward to working with you this year.
