Classroom Procedures
Entering the Classroom
1) Enter the room at noise level 0, and go to your assigned seat.
2) Remove your binder, books, pencils, etc. that will be needed for class. Make sure you have everything you need removed from you backpack and placed in your desks during this time.
3) Take your backpack to the hooks and store it on your assigned hook. No more than three people may be at hooks at one time. Quickly place your backpack on the hook and return to your seat without talking or making noise with your fellow classmates.
4) If your pencils need to be sharpened you should do so at this time. No more than one person may be at the pencil sharpener at one time.
5) As soon as you are finished storing your backpack or sharpening your pencils, return to you seat at noise level 0 and immediately begin working on your bell work.
6) When you finish your bell work, read silently until I give you further instructions.
7) All morning routines require noise level 0. There should be no talking at this time and there should be a minimum amount of movement and noise made during morning activities.
What to do when you are Tardy or Absent
1) If you are tardy or absent, place your excuse in the basket on the shelves next to the door.
2) Check the make-up station on the same shelves for any missed assignments.
3) If you miss a test during your absence, see me at the end of class to schedule a make-up time for you to take the test.
Exiting the Classroom
1) I dismiss the class, so wait for me to instruct you to gather your supplies and prepare to leave the room.
2) Exit the room at noise level 0 and remain at noise level 0 in the hall.
3) When going to the lunchroom, enrichment, or any other teacher directed area, stand in a single file/ABC order line and remain at noise level 0. You always keep your hands in your pockets or behind your back and stay on the purple line.
4) Remember sometimes when we are in the hallway other students are still in class learning. Respect your fellow classmates learning time by remaining at noise level 0 in the hallway.
Sitting In Groups
1) Sitting in groups does not mean all work is group work, nor does it mean you should be talking to your group mates.
2) When an assignment requires you to work with a partner or your group, I will tell you your conversation expectations.
3) We will employ the CHAMP model in this classroom which stands for conversations, help, activity, movement, and participation.
4) I will give you the CHAMP expectations for each assignment we complete in class. Morning activities follow: conversation-noise level 0, help-raise hand, activity-individual work, movement-limited (follow above routines), and participation-teacher observation/completion.
5) If we are working in groups of 2 I will instruct you to pair up with your shoulder/face partner.
6) If we are working in larger groups, it may consist of all persons in your seating group, or I may assign groups to have you work with people from a different seating group.
7) When working on partner or group assignments, every person in the group is responsible for his or her own work as well as the group’s work.
8) Individual jobs may be assigned by me at the beginning of the task, along with the instructions, or, in some cases, decided on by you as a group.
9) A guide for assessment or a rubric will be provided so you know what is expected of you.
Getting Your Attention
1) When you are working as partners or groups, and you have been given permission to talk, I will get you attention by saying “Give Me Five.”
2) “Give Me Five” looks like this: 1) Eyes on Speaker, 2) Mouth Quiet, 3) Being Still, 4) Hands Free, 5) Listening.
3) As soon as I say “Give Me Five,” you look at me and stop speaking or making noise.
4) You are not moving around, writing, drawing, or playing with your papers or anything else because you should be listening to me.
5) These are the expectations each time I say “Give Me Five.”
Take Home/Communication Folders
1) You are required to have a purple Take Home/Communication Folder.
2) You must bring this folder to school every morning and home every afternoon.
3) I will use this folder to communicate with your parents/guardians.
4) Every Tuesday the folder will contain graded papers from the previous week.
5) Your parents/guardian must sign and return all papers and sign the Take Home/Communication Folder log.
Bathroom/Water Break Policy—Bathroom and water breaks will be scheduled at allotted times. If an emergency arises, you will be allowed additional bathroom breaks. However, if this privilege is abused, it may be revoked on an individual basis.
