Welcome to Fifth Grade!
We are working very hard in all academic areas. It is very important that students know you are excited and interested in their learning. Please be sure to ask your child about his/her school day each day. I know that a lot of students say, " Nothing" or "I don't remeber" but it's our job to get the details out of them. A fun thing that I do at home it to ask your child very specific questions. For example:
"Tell me 2 funny things that happened at school"
"Tell me 1 great thing that happened at school"
"Tell me 1 new thing that you learned at school today"
"Tell me 1 or 2 things that you wished would have happened differently"
"Tell me the best/worst thing that happened at school today"
Some days we do so much it is hard for students to answer a broad question like, "What did you do at school today?" These questions help me generate some answers out of my 5th grader!!
Homework will be written daily into your child's planner by your child. It is your child's responsibility to make sure he/she brings home the appropriate materials needed to complete homework. If homework is not turned in on time your child will be docked money in their checkbooks and miss Free Center Friday to catch up all homework. Additional homework may be assigned as well. If something happens that your child cannot complete the homework please let me know by email or a note in the planner. Be sure to include your signature!
If you have any questions or concerns feel free to email or call me. I enjoy touching base with each of you and value your involvement in our class and your child's education.
