From Mrs. Dunn:

What a wonderful start to the year we have had. Students have learned all the rules and routines. Please practice tying shoes or double knots at home so we can save some time. In addition please make sure you sign your child’s planner nightly and clean out their homework folder daily.

Behavior

Students are doing a great job of following our R.O.A.R expectations. Just a reminder R stands for respect for others, O stands for outstanding behavior, A stands for always prepared and willing to learn and R stand for responsible choices.

          AR

AR stands for accelerated reader. In first grade students take home library books. They will read their books every night for 30 minutes. They will be tested on the computer. There are five to ten questions on the test to check their understanding. I know many students are excited and eager to get started taking AR tests.  This week your child will be assigned their reading level color based on the STAR test they took on Friday. They will also be permitted to check out TWO AR books from the library! Children will only return books from the library when all books are tested on. AR goals will also be set soon.  Please keep an eye out for the information to come home later this week. Thank you for your patience.

Homework

Homework will be assigned daily Monday through Thursday.  Students will be assigned a Math workbook page every other night as well as a literacy assignment. Your child also has spelling every night. Your child will write their homework in their planner when they arrive to school.  Please initial the planner and review all homework.  Homework is meant to be a review of what your child has been learning.   Any questions, please ask!!
