How Can I Help My Child be Successful in 3rd Grade?

*Provide your child with a special place to keep items he or she must take to school.

*Have your child unpack and re-pack their things each evening when schoolwork is finished.

*Check their homework folder amd homework pad daily.

*Discuss with your child the papers sent home in the homework Folder.

*Browse over your child's homework assignments each night.

*Encourage your child to talk about books, classroom programs, and things going on with school, including with friends.

*Set aside a special reading time each night. Alternate reading to your child and listening to your child read.

*Have your child read and log 2 steps each night and sign their reading log upon completion.

*Contact me if your child is having unusual difficulty with any homework or anything you don't understand so that we may further investigate the problem and/or communicate important information.

Things I would love to see your child with in school every day

1) Weather-appropriate clothing and outerwear. We go outside every day unless it is below 32 degrees.

2) A packed lunch, lunch money, or appropriate balance in their lunch account.

3) A healthy snack and drink.

4) Their homework folder and homework pad should come to school and be turned in every day to me, even if it's empty. It helps the children stay organized and understand the importance of classroom routines.

5) Completed homework when assigned.

6) Sneakers for gym days and for outdoor recess.

7) A smile and a positive attitude.

Things I would not like to see in school

1) Electronic devices (DS games, cell phones, ipods, etc)

2) Outside toys/games/trading cards. They are a distraction and cause problems in the classroom. Please reinforce this at home and check your child's backpack on a regular basis.
