Homework Home Reading:
The students are asked to read at home each week night (Monday - Friday) for 30 minutes with a book that is at their independent reading level. Each weekend the required time is 15 minutes each day. The total HOME reading time then for each week is 3 hours or 12 steps. Even if your child is absent, this reading should occur.

Homework Reading Response: The children are also required to respond to what they have read in writing. The Reading Response Homework is estimated to be about 5 minutes of writing for every 15 minutes of reading or about 10 minutes each night. The Reading Response Notebook will also return to school each day with the books taken home. Please read your child's responses and discuss what they have read and written with them. Your conversations each night will add to their reading development. The responses will be grades based on a 4 point rubric.
