Eighth grade is an exciting year filled with milestones.
We have so much to do and so much to look forward to.
I am anxious to get to know you and ready to help you to be prepared to move on from White Township Consolidated School.

Supplies for Grade 8 English Language Arts
A sturdy three subject notebook (with pockets)
A marble composition book (100 leaves)
Index cards (3x5, lined on one side)
Post-it notes (2x2)
Don't worry, there's still time to submit for the Summer Reading Challenge!

Read three (3) books this summer.
Choose a classic
Choose a Newbery Award Winner, Honor book (or a notable book awarded a different reputable award)
Choose your own favorite genre
Choose a way to document your reading for each book you read (you can mix and match or do the same thing for each book):

Reading Workshop Guidelines 2019-2020
Record your thinking/complete the Focus Strategy on the back of the Independent Reading Conference Rubric
Write a short Summary and thorough Response as part of a journal entry each week.
The journal will be counted as a quiz grade
The oral conference will be counted as a separate quiz grade.
Read articles on Newsela.com (either assigned or of your choice)
each week and complete the corresponding quizzes.
Submit a constructed response in the WRITE section for at least ONE of the articles you read.
I will monitor responses for completion and content in my Newsela Binder.

Warren County Library is a GREAT resource. Maybe I'll see you there!
If you don't, stop by the new branch to get one because it is a great, free resource. Once you have a card, you can go online to see if they have a book that interests you and check to see if it is available. You can request a copy from one of the other branches. Try downloading an audiobook to your computer, ipod or other device FREE by clicking on the eAudiobooks tab once you have linked to the site below:Warren County Library
There is also a free app for your ipad, ipod touch, iphone or Android device. Check it out at the top of their homepage.
