Mr. Romash’s Language Arts classes

Come to class with everything that you need for class.  This includes homework (if applicable), pen or pencil and a notebook.  If you are unprepared for class three times, it will result in a teacher detetion.  A DO-NOW assignment will be written on the board everyday when you walk into class.  Be prepared to start working as soon as you enter.

When homework is assigned, it is expected to be handed in the day it is due.  If homework is not finished, you will have a hard time discussing the topics in class.  Half credit will be given to homework assignments that are late.  Major assessments such as projects and papers will be deducted 10% of the final grade for everyday late.  Students have the opportunity to rewrite major assignments and homework for each marking period.  Generally, two to three days will be given for a rewrite, and students may come for extra help if necessary.  Once again, every circumstance is different and more time may be needed to complete a rewrite which is fine.  If you are rewriting a paper using Google Docs, the changes will be saved automatically and you don't need to do any additional work.  If you are rewriting a paper on another writing program, it is expected that you highlight every change that you made with comments explaining why you made these changes.  With ALL rewrites, it is expected that the original paper and rubric be handed in as well.  Unexpected things do arise, and if you are absent on a day that homework is due, it is expected that the next day you are in class it will be handed in without penalty.

You are expected to start on the do-now activity when the bell rings.  If the do-now involves writing, please make sure you put the date down in your notebook.

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to collect the work and finish it in a timely manner.  Here are some ideas that may help you:

·        Ask a friend who lives close to bring home worksheets or notes from class

·        The next day before class ask me and I will give you the work

                 ·     Check my website.  I will update homework on my website regularly

Language Arts is a class that requires participation.  We will be delivering speeches and working in groups frequently.  It is imperative that you work with a range of students in class and focus on your group skills.

  • Extra help is available every day before school starting at 7:15.  If you would like to come in to work on a paper, practice a speech, etc, please schedule a time and let me know at least one day in advance.

If you have questions pertaining to class, please feel free to contact me any time before school, after school, or whenever I am available during the school day.  If your parent or guardian needs to contact me, I am available at or by telephone at (908) 204-2610 extension 341. E-mail is the best way to contact me.
