My name is Tara Zedalis and I am beginning my 20th year here at Pinelands and 25th year as a Spanish teacher. My philosophy is that all  students can be successful in a world language class. They have all already successfully learned at least one language (English for most of them), and if they do what is expected of them in class, they can easily learn another.
The students who actively participate in class will succeed. Students who miss class frequently or are not paying attention will fall farther and farther behind as the year progresses. There is very little work required outside of class, but the students must be working hard every day while they are with me. Like many things in life, the students will get out of class what they put into it.
For Spanish I classes, the students should leave in June with the ability to communicate orally and in writing on a variety of specific themes, as well as have an understanding of and appreciation for the cultures of the Spanish-speaking countries.
In the Conversational Spanish classes, students will be introduced
to the Spanish cultural influences around them and explore the similarities and differences between the Spanish-speaking population and the American way of life. Students will also begin the study of the Spanish language with vocabulary introduced in thematic units which will incorporate basic grammatical structures to promote communication. This class fulfills the state graduation requirement in world language but is not a prerequesite for Spanish II.
Over the course of the year, I will be updating Google Classroom with current units of study. Any homework or projects also will be listed on the page.
You can help by encouraging your child to participate in class and asking them about what they have learned.
I look forward to working with all of you towards the success of your children as they embark on the exciting and worthwhile adventure of learning a new language. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at [email protected] and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
