Study Skills

Ms. Brooke Broussard, Instructor

2010-2011 School Year

Room 103

OBJECTIVE : This Study Skills course is designed to supplement students’ regular education with special attention to the individual needs of each and every unique mind enrolled.

Coursework will focus largely on reading, writing, general problem solving, basic math operations, and instruction specifically related to the general education curriculum.

EXPECTATIONS OF STUDENTS : Students are expected to arrive at class on time, and prepared with the necessary tools for learning – a ready mind, writing utensils, blank ruled paper, and any materials needed to complete assignments due in other classes. When time allows, students will be allowed to complete these other assignments and will be aided by the instructor when needed.

Those enrolled in this class are expected to respect themselves, other students, the instructor, classroom materials and the subject matter of the class itself. Any failure to do so will result in appropriate consequences.

Students should always have reading material and/or class work to occupy their time should they complete Study Skills assignments early.

GRADING : Students will be graded on their general class participation, completion of class assignments, regular planner usage and upkeep (which will be checked periodically), and journal participation. In the case of a legitimate, excused absence the students’ grade for the day will not be lessened by any point value.

Progress reports will be sent home with students at the middle of each six-week grading period.

A NOTE FROM THE INSTRUCTOR : The parents and/or guardians of students are encouraged to be involved in the education of their children, and I have an “open-ear” policy when it comes to communication between myself and parents. Parents should feel free to contact me through the school, either by calling (337) 893-1874, or emailing [email protected]
