Welcome to an exciting new year in 5th grade! I am looking forward to meeting everyone face to face and virtually. I have taught for over 25 years, but this year I will be like a new teacher. We will have challenges and obstacles to face and each one will make us stronger and better.
Teaching 5th grade ELA is a joy for me, and the Guidebook novel units we will study together are rigorous and extremely interesting. We will learn about Native Americans in The Birchbark House, the importance of communication in Wonderstruck, conflicts of good and evil in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, as well as taking a look at life in the early 1900s in America in Shutting Out the Sky.
Together we will become experts at Google Classroom and Zoom. We will read Accelerated Readers, CommonLit, and Readworks. We will use The Writing Revolution to become great writers. By the end of the year, students will read, understand and express their understanding of complex text in speaking and writing.
Reading is one of my passions, and I am thrilled to begin a new chapter with the unprecedented new school year of 2020-2021. Please feel free to contact me through email or Remind.
