A Word About Confidentiality
Small groups of students may meet at lunch time or another time agreed upon as least interfering with academic instruction. Below is a sampling of the groups that may be formed. Parent permission is required for participation in groups marked with an *. Parents who wish to have their child receive such support are asked to contact the counseling office at 908-204-2550, ext. 108. Groups meet once a week during either Lunch or Recess for 30 minutes for ten sessions. Groups are open to children in all grades, unless otherwise noted. Groups run in the Fall and Spring. Home Pages are sent home shortly after each group has begun, and then at the end of the group. These pages will contain highlights of what topics and activities have been covered in your child's group.
All groups maintain rules of confidentiality.
NEWCOMER'S CLUB: Students new to the school in grades 1-5 are invited to meet in small groups to promote friendships and healthy adjustments (This group meets for two sessions during Lunch).
*FUN WITH FRIENDS: Students can meet with the counselor once a week during LUNCH to practice friendship and conflict resolution skills.
*BANANA SPLITS: Students who are experiencing a loss in their family through separation, divorce, or death meet to share their concerns and receive group support.
*STRESS BUSTERS: Students who are invited to participate will discover their body's signals of stress. Students will learn relaxation techniques, as well as problem solving strategies.
*BOOSTERS: Students explore ways to increase self-confidence, self-esteem, and friendship through helpful projects. Projects may include assisting teachers during Kindergarten and 1st grade PE, Art and in their classrooms (Open to 3rd, 4th and 5th graders).
