Welcome Fifth Grader,
Hi. I’m Mrs. Mastroianni, your Fifth Grade Homeroom Teacher. I can’t wait to meet you and start a new school year. I hope that you are all set to come back to the classroom for the exciting lessons and topics that will be taught in fifth grade. Fifth Grade will be a different school experience for you this year. We will be starting the year with shortened schedules and assigned days of in-school teaching. I am sure everyone is hoping this is temporary and that we will be able to be in-person with the whole class soon.
I had a great summer. My family and I spent time camping. It was very exciting to go kayaking and hiking. We do this every year and love our camping trips with family. My father lives in Maine on an island…you can drive to it, but it is very isolated, so social distancing was easy.
My family also spent a week at the Jersey Shore. This is our thirteenth year staying at Diamond Beach (Wildwood Crest). The kids loved the beach. I got to relax a little and my family and I even went jet skiing. I was not a fan…I like slow activities like paddle boarding.
Some of you remember me walking the hallways last year with our Seeing Eye Dog, Farrah. My family has been working hard this summer with her basic training. Farrah has been all over the place with all the other puppies in our training group. Farrah is still with us because The Seeing Eye in Morristown also shut down during Covid-19. They started taking dogs back in the beginning of July who were already working on their formal training. Farrah gets to stay with us longer, until they are ready to call her back for the start of her formal training.
Well, that’s all about me for now. I have more to tell you, but that can wait until September. I’m sure that you have great stories to tell about yourself. So here’s your first homework assignment…yes, even before school starts! Please write me a letter about yourself. It can include what you did this summer, your favorite books, or even foods you hate, whatever you would like to tell me about yourself. Send in your typed letter on the first day of school to email@example.com. This will help me get to know you better.
Continue to have a great summer and I look forward to meeting you in person. My classroom is on Integrity Lane- Room 200. The first day of school is on Thursday, September 3rd. That will be a virtual day for all. I will send you a Zoom invite as it gets closer.
