Welcome to the Health and Wellness Page! Health instruction at the the Holmstead consists of four courses. Four semesters of health are required for graduation in New Jersey. 9/11/12 Health classes are taught by a Certified School Nurse Teacher with Health Teacher Endorcement as well. Health 9 Students will study a range of topics to include : First Aid, Environmental Health, Exercise, Rest and Recreation, Infectious and Non Infectious diseases. Health 11/12 students will learn a wellness based course of study for the first semester and a body systems course of health in the second semester. Health 10 is Driver Education taught by Chris Conklin. All courses are compliant with NJ core standards for instruction.
In addition to the above courses, CPR/AED instruction is provided to our seniors. The state of NJ requires that seniors have a course in CPR prior to graduation. CPR certification is provided by instructors from American Safety Training. Students will recieve a BLS card at the end of the training. This certification is good for two years. Note: This building is equipped with 3 AED devices.
The Health Office is available through out the school day for all students and staff for minor medical issues. It is also a quiet space for those students that need a "time out" during the day. Health screenings are done in accordance with state mandates through out the year. Immunization records are audited by Bergen County yearly.
