On Friday, we will have another special guest speaker, a representative from Louisiana Auto Theft Department. This week we will start Chapter 11, Bones and Muscle Injuries, my favorite. Also this week, we will make up the day we didn't get to hear from the Acadian Ambulance Paramedic and the Supervisor. Also, lets all be on good behavior because our Spring Fling is Friday.
(16th Week (May 2nd-6th)
What a great week last week. This week we will continue Chapter 11, test and jump into Chapter 13. Remember to start working on your first aid kit, at least find a shoe box and go ahead and label it. We have less then 4 weeks, don't stop know. Remember, this grading scale really doesn't raise up grades by doing good on finals, but doing poorly on it could lower it. Lets do the very best we can on every quiz, exam, and project in every class.
(17th Week (May 9th-13th)
Here we go, our last week before its final time. This week, we will get it started with a visit from our sheriff. Many of you will be taking EOC exams, so get after it.
(1st Week (Aug. 10th-14th)
WOW....Welcome back. Our first day together (this past Friday), we got alot accomplished. Last year I had 3 great classes and I expect the same this spring. In class, we will start with the history of first aid and the various levels of health care from the EMR to the Paradmedic. We will also take the pre-test.....relax. This test is show US what you don't know right now and what this class is all about. But I willing to bet, you will do real well on the post test. I can say that because we WILL do what it takes to improve. It's my desire and effort to make this class the best you have ever taken. Also, hopefully I can become one of your favorite teachers. So I want you to try to be one of my favorite students. Don't forget your student fee and all those papers which needs to be signed by paretns/guardians. SUPER FIRST WEEK....
WFHS has some super students. In IHO, we covered and learned a ton from Chapter 1. This week we will dive into the Ethics and Legal Issues (Chap. 2) surrounding the med-world. Many started off well with doing a good job on the Alma-Mata quiz, having their notebook up to date, and passing the Chapter 1 test. A few did not, those really need to get back on track quick or its going to be a rough year in this class. Besure to ask for assistance from me before we get too far in the book. A secret to this class and ALL classes is to read your notes nightly.
(3rd Week ( Aug. 24th-28th)
This week we will start Chapter 3. This chapter will be about the well being of the Medical Responder. This includes the mental and physical aspects of this occupation. I am busy lining up my Special Speakers, so do keep up with the notes taken so we can carry a very professional conversation with these hereos.
For those who have not turned in all their paperwork or fees, please take care of this.

Make plans to be here Thursday in the best class around. This week you will get your first interim, this is your scorecard of your success and failures to date. No matter what you receive, lets work hard, harder, and hardest for the next one.

This is her 3rd year with us and she has some great information for those looking into dentistry, dental hygentist, or just looking at the medical field. It will be another great week.

Ok, we are moving great through our books and our guest speaker. You'll have learned a ton, but don't get satisfied, we have alot more interesting stuff to learn. This week we will start Chapter 7, Patient Assessment. We will learn about approaching a sick/hurt victim and how to gather information about them, wether its speaking to them or one standing by.
Thursday, our guest speaker will be a State Trooper. Another of our EMS Heroes. So as you can see, its going to be another great week in The Introduction of Health Occupation Class.
(10th Week (Oct 12th-16th)
Ok, 2 interims down and we are half way. Are you satisfied with your grades? Lets get after it this week. We will continue with Chapter 7 (Patient Assessment) and we will test on Tuesday.
Then we will jump into Chapter 8 (Resusciatation and Use of the AED). We have already covered much of this information in a previous chapter, buts its important enough to see it one more time.

I enjoy showcasing my school and students because both are GREAT.
(12th Week (Oct 26th-Oct. 30th)
Well last week we did it again, Walker Freshman High students took a tour of the massive Angola Prison. The staff that welcomed us and showed us around was VERY impressed with the maturity of 51 14-15 year old students. They asked well thought out questions and followed all rules. This week we will start Chapter 9 which is all about medical and trauma injuries. This for certain will be one of those chapters we will carry and probably one day use. On Thursday, we will listen to another medical speaker....a Dental Hygenist. On Friday, 1st block will spend the day at Our Lady of Lake Trauma Center. This should be just another great week here at Walker Freshman High.
(13TH Week (Nov. 2nd -6th)
This will be a great week, not only will we have the chance to show how much you learned by passing Chapter 9's test, but we will start Chapter 10, HA. On Thursday we will have a guest speaker, a Louisiana Wildlife Agent. He will address us with his qualifications, but also his first aid training if needed in the woods or water. I will be putting together the 2nd block class Lady of the Lake field trip roster, work hard to get on it.
(14th Week 9 Nov. 9th-13th)
Gee, is this class just getting better and better. This was a great week. A vast majority of the students did real well on their Chapter 9 test. We listened to the education, training, and protocals of a Lousiana Wildlife Agent and he was an alumni of WHS. This week week we will continue with Chapter 10 and we will get into splinting and slings. On Thursday we will have another alumni speaker who is an Anesthesiologists. THANK YOU 2nd BLOCK, your behavior, maturity, and answering the many questions at Our Lady of the Lake Trauma Center made me very proud of you. So far, both classes (1st and 2nd block) have executed our trips there great. This week 3rd block will take their trip and I am sure I will feel the same about them. This week, will be a fun week leading into our Thanksgiving Holidays. Last week, we did not have our guest speaker, the Anesthesiologists, so she is reschedule for Thursday. Tuesday is a half day, Wednesday will be Club Day, and Friday 3rd block heads Loff to Our Lady of the Lake. This week we will start Chapter 11 which is about "Caring for Muscle and Bone Injuries". After this week, we have 2 weeks then its FINALS. So lets start looking over these notes from day 1, the test is on every chapter. Finals are test that you pass and they really don't bring up grades, but if one fails it, it can make a big difference. Also, lets keep up the positive attitude and efforts in the classroom, especially when we have a SUB-TEACHER.
