Week of May 11-15

You guys continue to impress me every week with your dedication to your school work! Great Job!

Good News! We are winding down with 2 weeks left of instruction. Keep working hard.

Math- This week we will begin a new unit- Arrays. This is preparing the students for multiplication with repeated addition.

In your new packet, it will be week 3. The packet will focus on Arrays  which puts objects into rows and columns. From an array, you can use repeated addition to get the total amount of objects.

See example in the beginning of week 3.

IXL- Section Y - I have highlighted 2 lessons. Y1- Count equal groups and Y4 Relate addition and multiplication for equal groups.

Reflex Math- Continue to work on fluency!!  Aim for Tuesdays and Thursdays, but you can do Reflex Math anyday! I have seen so much growth in fluency over the past 2 months!

Science-  Section L- Traits- Along with the skills, your child will begin to see more of this type of questioning in higher grades.

Have a great week and as always…. Contact me with any questions or just to let me know how you are doing.

Week of May 4-May 8-

Wow!!! Great job last week!! We hit 20,000 questions on IXL and mastered numerous math and science skills. I’m so impressed with how many of you have been working in Reflex Math building your fluency skills for third grade! Keep it up! 3 more weeks!!

Math- This week we will continue working with fractions. We will identify fractions of a whole and identify fractions of a group. In your packet, it will be week 2.

IXL- Section W- W6,W8, W9, W13, W16

Reflex Math- Aim for Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Science-  (IXL J 6,7, and 8)This week  our focus will be on

Seed Dispersal- In order for seeds to become new plants, seeds must move away from the parent plant. There are several ways seeds can be dispersed.

  1. Animals can disperse seeds.

Seeds may stick to an animal’s body and be dropped off in another location.

Animals can bury seeds in another location.

After animals eat fruit and they move around,  their droppings can contain the seeds.

 2. Wind and water can also move seeds.

Some plants living near water can burst open and their seeds can be transported through different bodies of water.

Art- I would love to be making Mother’s Day gifts this week!  Please ask your child to make you a picture for Mother’s Day. If you look on youtube, Art Hub (Mother’s Day), the students will have some good ideas and you can be surprised! Please send me a pic of you, your child, and Mother’s Day Pic. I would love to see them!

  :) Thank you, Mrs. Geri

Week of April 27-May 1

Wow! I can’t believe we will be in May by the end of the week!

Math- This week we will continue with fractional parts of a whole.

In your new packet, it will be week 1.

IXL- Section W- I have highlighted 4 lessons in the “new” section in fractions- Students will make fractions. Also, W-7 students will match the correct shape with the fraction.

Reflex Math- Let’s aim for Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Science- This week  our focus will be on

Pollination- When an animal moves pollen from one plant to another.

Pollinators- The animals that move pollen from one plant to another like bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and bats.

IXL- Section J 3,4,5- IXL does this by focusing on one animal and goes through the pollination process.

Art- I don’t know about you guys but I have been missing art!! Draw me a picture of a flower with a pollinator.  If you look on Art Hub (youtube), look up flowers and choose a pollinator. You will get some good ideas. I’ll draw one too and share it later in the week. Please send them to me.

Have a great week and as always…. contact me with any questions or just to let me know how you are doing.
