April 27, 2018
This last full week of April is bringing us some warmer weather. Please, remember students may still need jackets or sweaters for recess, particularly our younger kiddoes.
Cedar Hill's Word of the Week is EMPATHY. For our students, we defined empathy as a noun that means, "the ability to share the feelings of another person". Used in a sentence, one could say, "When Bob's friend fell down he showed empathy by going over to make sure he was not hurt." Continue our home/school connection by talking about this word in your house, at the dinner table, and using it to help our children internalize the meaning.
At Monday evening's BOE meeting, our district honored each school's 2018 Teacher of the Year. Cedar Hill's recipient, nominated and voted on by her colleagues is Mrs. Stephanie Orr. Mrs. Orr has been a teacher in Bernards Township and at Cedar Hill since 2000. Currently, she teaches grades 3-5 in our Learning and Language Disabilities Class (LLD). An excerpt from the speech honoring Mrs. Orr said,
A colleague wrote that Stephanie has earned the respect of her colleagues, supervisors, and administrators. She is viewed as a positive leader, a cooperative team player and an asset to the whole school! She not only contributes to, but establishes committees. When Stephanie thinks of a project that is in the interest of the greater good, helping the community, or making the world a better place, she makes it happen. She is on multiple committees and in charge of additional programs, but is never too busy to give advice or help out someone who asks. A colleague wrote, "When I describe the traits of a great teacher and good person, I describe Stephanie Orr."
Please, join me in congratulating Mrs. Orr on her honor. We are fortunate to have Stephanie as part of our Cedar Hill family.
