Dear Parents,

Much thanks to the PTO for the delicious Valentine’s Faculty Breakfast yesterday morning. The entire faculty was well nourished and ready to start the day. We so appreciate the kindnesses our parents show the teachers and staff.

Parents, please continue to drive slowly through our parking lots. In the car lines, Please move up all the way to the front of the drop-off area, unless directed differently by a faculty member on duty. By pulling up all the way, we are able to have about 10 cars unload at a time. Even when waiting in the car line, before you get to the drop-off/pick-up area, please do your best to pull up to the next car. I am also going to ask parents darting across the driveway to the small parking lot, please use the crosswalk. I am worried someone is going to get hit and using the crosswalk would set a great example for our children.

We have hired a new media center specialist/ librarian. Pending BOE approval later this month, Mrs. Emily Jones will become our new librarian. We are so excited to have Emily join us. Mrs. Jones lives in town and her daughter attended Cedar Hill. Until Emily begins, one of our veteran substitutes, Mrs. Noreen Kelly, has been teaching and running the library.  A huge thank-you to Mrs. Kelly. Mrs. Daglian and Mrs. Orr have also been so fantastic in helping Mrs. Kelly with lesson plans and preparing for classes. Thank you, Mrs. Daglian and Mrs. Orr! Finally, I want to thank our library parent volunteers.  They have been so kind in helping with the circulation desk and reshelving books, particularly during this time when Mrs. Kelly has been substituting in the library. It is truly a family keeping the library a wonderful place to come to read and explore.

I want to encourage parents to attend Monday night’s BOE meeting. The main presentation will be on Social and Emotional Learning. This is one of our three district goals and an important area related to the idea of resiliency in our students. The main speaker will be the Director of Guidance, Mrs. Jillian Shadis. Each building principal will present highlights of their school’s work in nurturing our students’ social and emotional health.

Republishing Letter Regarding Sickness from Mrs. Lynn - Due to the flu season, I am republishing Mrs. Lynn’s letter from earlier this year.

IMPORTANT  -- Dating Dismissal Changes - Parents, please help us! If you send in a note about a dismissal change, please make sure to add the date to avoid any confusion.

Valentines - Please try to avoid food-related valentines if possible.  We realize that many parents may have purchased their valentines already.  Any valentines containing food will be brought home to be consumed under the parents’ discretion. Students should make sure to bring in a valentine for each child in the class.

Pokemon Cards - There have been many issues recently with students trading pokemon cards.  Students are permitted to bring their cards to school for use during recess; however, they may not trade cards with classmates.

Reminder about DynaCal - District Event Calendar - A reminder to all parents that the district maintains an interactive calendar of events for all schools including Cedar Hill. Go to the following page on the District website to view DynaCal:
