Be aware of what you eat; your health depends on it. Carbohydrates provides you with the most energy. Fats provide energy as well, but fats and sugars do not provide energy as quickly as carbohydrates do. Proteins provide you with the raw materials needed for growth and repair. And, to remain healthy, all living things need vitamins and minerals.

Physical Education Syllabus

 

 

 

Overview

The Physical Education program is designed to develop the mental, emotional, physical, and social aspects of the students’ lives. Students are introduced to the fundamentals of team and individual sports, which includes rules, skills, and game strategy, as well as physical fitness. The physical education program’s emphasis is placed on providing an opportunity for individual growth and success.

 

Course Goals

  1. To develop and maintain physical and mental fitness.
  2. To develop basic knowledge of skills, strategies, sportsmanship, and personal hygiene.
  3. To encourage growth through interaction with others in individual and team sports.
  4. To develop leadership skills, encourage proper care of personal and school property and to respect the rights of other students and staff.
  5. To install a positive attitude at school, home and in the community.

 

Course Description

The West St. John High Physical Education curriculum will concentrate on all areas of physical development. Classes will stress the importance of student(s) participation and sportsmanship while learning and performing various skills along with encouraging students about nutritional needs.

 

Class Expectations

  1. Students are REQUIRED to DRESS OUT and PARTICIPATE daily.
  2. All students are to remain in the gym, locker room, or other designated class settings until the end of class. No student should leave without permission.
  3. Students are expected to use PE equipment for intended purposes. Destruction or misuse of equipment will not be tolerated.

 

 

 

Materials

  1. West St. John High sports apparel or PE uniform: T-shirt, gym shorts, and tennis shoes.
  2. Personal T-shirts worn to school cannot be worn in PE class.
  3. ABSOLUTELY NO PHONES, I-PODS, MP3’s, HEAD-PHONES, or EAR BUDS are allowed.

 

 

Classroom Management Plan

The students will be encouraged to take good care of all equipment and locker room facilities. The student(s) will be respectful to the instructor, substitute teacher, and other students in class. The student(s) will also be encouraged to have a positive attitude, exemplify sportsmanship, be on time, and not to use improper language. Any student(s) who disobeys the rules that are established in the Student Handbook throughout the semester will be subjected to disciplinary actions.

 

Grading

Grades will be determined using a point system. Total points earned divided by total points possible.

A = 100-90

B = 89-80

C = 79-70

D = 69-60

F = 59 and below

 

Dress Out Grade

Each day students will be given a grade for wearing the proper attire. Students will receive 25 points daily for dressing out in full WSJ High School apparel or WSJ high school PE uniform. 5 points will be taken away for the day if the student does not have his/her shirt, and 5 points will be taken if the student does not have his/her shorts. Forgo, a total of 10 points will be taken away daily if the student(s) does not dress out.

 

Participation Grade

Students will receive 25 points for full participation daily. Points will be deducted if student(s) decides to stop, sit, and/or refuse to participate. If a student does not dress out and does not participate, they will receive 0 points for that day.

 

Skills Test (See Rubrics)

Skills tests are done on the sport or activity that we are teaching for that month. (refer to Lesson Plan)

 

Exams

Mid-terms and final exams will be graded on a 100-point scale. Exams’ style will be multiple choice, written, and/or True - False. Students are responsible for making up any work. Medical issues must be reported to the school’s front office and to the school nurse.
