Benvenuti! Welcome!

Welcome to my classroom! My name is Adriana Bonetti, or Signora Bonetti for my students. I will be teaching Italian for the third year, now, in Bayonne.

This year, Italian will be offered to students in both Horace Mann and Washington Community Schools for grades 3, 4 and 5.

You may be asking, "Why Italian?" Learning a language - any language - is beneficial for kids. It improves their cognitive skills like problem-solving and critical thinking skills; strengthens their understanding of the English language (as Italian is a Latin-based language); and broadens their perspective of our very much globalized world by offering an awareness of a different culture. Italian also facilitates learning languages like Spanish, French, and Portuguese as it is a Romance language and shares many similarites with the ones mentioned. In the long-run, learning Italian opens the doors to many career opportunies and global industries such as fashion, design, culinary arts, international business, and diplomacy. It is also beneficial for those interested in art, art history, and archeology - Italy is, afterall, the country with the most UNESCO World Heritage sites, and home to notable historic cities and works of art.

World Language will be considered a special for the students and will be graded with a pass/fail grade.

Materials for class: Pencil, Art Supplies, Folder, Notebook (may be a small one for jotting notes), Chromebook, and Headphones

I will be presenting all of our class resources, including videos, on Google Classroom. I create packets that the students complete in class, however I do provide additonal worksheets to be completed during class. Sometimes, time does run out - and that's ok! We learn what we can in the time provided. Also, it's ok if a student is absent. Everything is posted on Google Classroom so that there's no way to "miss out" on what is taught. My presentations will always have an audio recording to listen to for correct pronunciation of words taught that week.

There will be no homework. However, students are encouraged to review the material shared each week. They are also encouraged to expose themselves as much as possible to the Italian language. They can do so by watching the videos and cartoons I share, and by seeing what shows they can stream at home that may be available in Italian. DuoLingo is free and another great tool for language learning.

I aim for this class to be a fun learning experience - students will be exposed to a new language and culture. Please be respectful of our time together in class.

I have shared resources here with you on my page so that you may also learn along with your child.
