Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am excited to embark on my second year with the Panther Nation as your General Music Teacher! Through a strong emphasis on child involvement and play through music, even our youngest learners are engaged and participating in music through dance, song, chant, and play...we make music together every lesson, every week!
As a teacher, I strive to relate learning concepts to students’ lives outside the classroom walls—music doesn’t stop when you leave the music classroom, and neither should your participation or appreciation for it! By making music in the classroom reflect what they hear outside of it, we provide space for learners to form deeper, personal connections to music and its key fundamentals. They will learn essential theory concepts and apply them not only to the works of Mozart, but to their favorite mainstream artists as well.
Kindergarten - 2nd Grade through the Music and the Brain curriculum will be learning and playing piano in their Music Enrichment coursework. We have a dedicated piano lab where scholars will spend time each week putting their newly learned music skills into practice.
3rd - 4th Grade through the Quaver Music curriculum will take a deeper focus on music theory and apply that knowledge through ear training. singing. and instrument playing. This year, they will be introduced to the Recorder, and will be more than eager to showcase their playing skills at one of our school music events!
3rd and 4th grade scholars will also have opportunities to join our afterschool music programs: FWE Chorus and FWE Bucket Drumline!
I look forward to an incredible year of making music with your scholars!
Most sincerely,
Mrs. Roussel
