Welcome to Art for the 2022-2023 school year!
Your student will be attending Art Class with me every other day for half of the school year (first two or last two marking periods). In this time frame, I want to give students experiences with all types of art mediums including drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, and more! While I know Art may not be every students’ strong suit, Art is a great way to practice problem solving skills, creative thinking, and become a well-rounded individual! I am so excited to be working with your students this school year as we create and learn through the visual arts!

Teacher Expectations:
I believe all my students have the potential to be successful in the Art Room, around the school, and in the community, so I keep my expectations high. In our classroom, students should be following all Lakeside rules according to the Student Handbook, as well as our classroom rules. Respect and kindness are a must- no hateful words or actions will be tolerated.
Lessons and Activities
Following Millville School’s Visual Arts Curriculum for 6th-8th Grade, as well as the NJ Visual Arts Standards, students will be guided through a variety of activities and projects that demonstrate their knowledge of the elements of art, as well as use and safety of the different tools and mediums within the visual arts! Choice is a big proponent in my classroom, allowing students to work with subjects and materials that interest them and meet their needs where they are.
Grading:
Although Art can be fun and we use materials that aren’t normally used in other classes, Art still has graded coursework that will be posted in the gradebook regularly. Students will complete activities such as sketchbook assignments, artist statements, and “mini projects” as 60% of their grade. Larger, more in-depth projects will also be done in class as 40% of their grade. Students will not only be graded on the demonstration of knowledge, but participation and effort also plays a role in the overall score. I do not assign homework in Art unless a student runs out of class time for a project and needs to finish it at home.
Extra Curriculars:
I am so excited to be joining the Performing Arts department as their Set Designer this musical season, and plan to start an after school Art Club soon! Check back for more details!
