My name is Carol Guenther, and I will be teaching 7th and 8th grade English Language Arts.
This will be my 20th year in education. I graduated with a degree in elementary education from Cornell College in Mt Vernon, IA. In 2006, I completed my master's degree from Western Illinois University and became a reading specialist serving students in grades 6th through 12.
In 2013, I became a principal after completing my specialist degree from Drake University in Des Moines, IA. I served as principal for a district in east-central Iowa for students in grades 6 - 12. Students in my building came from rural 8 communities. In addition to serving as principal, I worked as the district curriculum director and special education director. Working with my team, our building was able to turn our school into a model school in Iowa for our implementation of our curriculum and standards based grading to improve student achievement, Social Emotional Learning, & PBIS.
On a regional and state level, I was an advocate for students from rural settings and worked to promote career and technical education. I was selected as the ACTE administrator of the year for the state of Iowa in 2018. This past year, I was a state finalist for the secondary principal of the year presented by the School Administrators of Iowa.
On a personal note, my husband Corey and I have seven grown children and two grandchildren. We relocated to Louisiana this summer for a new adventure and to get away from Iowa's winters. Although we have only been here a short time, we are both thrilled with our new community and all that Lousiana has to offer. I am very excited to join the staff of Greenville Park Leadership Academy.
