Welcome to 3rd Grade ELA & Social Studies
Dear Parents,
My name is Mrs. Barthelemy. I will be teaching your child ELA and
Social Studies this 2025-26 school year! I have been very busy getting our classroom ready for our new adventures. I understand what a great milestone this is for your child. I am only a phone call, note, or email away and will do my best to answer any questions you may have. This year will be an exciting action—packed year filled with opportunities to build your child’s confidence and encourage them to see learning as enjoyable and fun. My goal is for your child to reach his or her developmental educational potential.
In ELA, grade 3, a year of discovery and wonder, begins with a study of the ocean, a rich source of life, beauty, and inspiration. In this first module of the year, students encounter the sea through a careful analysis of literature, informational texts, and art. Students not only gain knowledge about the ocean, but also learn to value curiosity as a driving force in human endeavors.
In Social Studies, the first unit, The Founding of the United States of America, students will be learning about the American Revolution.
They will be given a Performance Task Assessment which requires them to apply and share the knowledge learned during the unit through either an oral or written presentation.
I am happy to welcome you to the 2025-26 school year! I am looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our scholars can achieve their highest potential. I recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. I know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success, and I want you to know that I will do my very best to carry out my responsibility. I ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:
1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience
2) Completes all homework assignments given by teachers
3) Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills
4) Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life
5) Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject
6) Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to college
Thank You,
Mrs. G. Barthelemy, M.Ed.
