Here are examples of some of what will be happening in Art Class this year.
Pre-school: We are using our small motor skills to draw, color, paint, cut and glue in all kinds of projects. We learn about lines, colors and shapes as we create differnt types of images using both abstract and realistic design, and materials and techniques like paints, markers and collage techniques.
Kindergarten: We started at the beginning with a painting inspired by Dutch artist Piet Mondrian and his primary colored boxes. Then learn about culture and the stone sculptures of Easter Island. We also look at the cave art of Lascaux and will create rocks made of clay.
.First Grade: Reviewing and creating patterns for a work of art incorporating baby blankets after Gustav Klimt's Baby (Cradle), 1917-1918. We learn about Pablo Picasso's drawings and create our own bouquet of flowers. Seurat's dots is a fun way of making a repeating design using folded tissue paper.
Second Grade: We'll be xploring the Day of the Dead and decorative Papel Picado banners, caricature portraits and Paul Klee images to create a colorful collaged work of art, as well as vases of sunflowers and more.
Third Grade: Discovering nature's changes through an oil pastel relief of swirling leaves. We work with some cursive letters of our names to create bilaterally symmetric "aliens" and have fun while we are being creative
Fourth Grade: Exploring weaving is fun as we create alien life forms! We will create a "stained glass" overlap our hands and will learn about the art of Roy Lichtenstein.
Fifth Grade: Continuing our theme of the world around us, we are creating some interesting Architectural desings and beautiful sunset silhouettes. We will also create face masks using a theme.
