Welcome to Mrs. Leverett's 4th grade ELA class!
Throughout this year, we will form a love for reading and writing!
Students who attend this class will be learning lessons from the district's Amplify curriculum for ELA and the district's Bayou Bridges curriculum for Social Studies! We will use various reading sources throughout the year to aid in the growth of our reading comprehension and writing skills!
Testing:
ELA
We will have a minimum of 8 formal assessments throughout each 9 week period. These formal assesments will be based on vocabulary, literary elements, and reading sources studied in class. 4 of them will be reading performance assessments and the other 4 with be writing performance assessments.
Skills will be reviewed, practiced, and tested throughout the year to enable skill mastery.
Skills include: figurative language, theme, main idea, evidence, etc.
Students will also spend time practicing cold reads, annotating texts, and learning how to cite evidence properly from a text.
SS
We will have a minimum of 4 formal assessments throughout each 9 week period. These formal assesments will be based on vocabulary, reading sources, and the analysis of various sources.
My goal is for students to learn in a welcoming environment and that all of their needs are met. My hopes are that by the end of the year, each student leaves knowing they are ready for 5th grade!
Homework:
Students will be given homework to be completed at home nightly. This will be in the form of daily workbooks, worksheets, etc.
Please check your student's agenda book nightly to verify that they are completing their assigned homework.
Students should also read for at least 10 minutes nightly. This will help expand their vocabulary and increase their background knowledge on many things as well as help them achieve their AR goals!
Signed papers:
Signed papers and conduct reports go home every Wednesday in an orange folder.
Please be on the lookout for this every Wednesday, and sign and return the folder by Thursday for CHAMP change!
