Hey, y'all!

My name is Amy Slaydon and I love teaching 2nd grade at EBE! I'm looking forward to a great year of learning with my crew!

We are implementing 2 new curriculums this year in reading and in math. This will be a learning curve for all of us, but I do believe that it will help to meet students where they are in their learning and move them forward.

We are using the Core Knowledge Language Arts/Amplify curriculum for reading, which includes both a Skills Strand (grammar, spelling, fluency, comprehension) and a Knowledge Strand (vocabulary, comprehension, critical thinking). Students will practice tricky words, review spelling patterns, build reading fluency, and learn about history, science, and social studies topics during their morning reading block.

Our new Math curriculum this year is Eureka Math Squared. It is an updated version of the previous curriculum we were doing, with simplified wording and fewer problems per lesson.  Our focus this year will be building math fact fluency in adding and subtracting numbers from 1-20, as well as gaining strategies and tools to be more efficient problem solvers.

Students will also have the opportunity to work on motor skills, social skills, and engage in hands-on learning in Art, Library, and STEAM Lab! I am excited about all we will learn and do this year in 2nd grade!
