As we are entering the wonderful month of March, I wanted to share with you why March is SO special for music education. March is Music in Our Schools Month!  Here is the official explanation of MIOSM:

“For more than 30 years, March has been officially designated by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®), the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation.

The purpose of MIOSM is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children – and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music. MIOSM is an opportunity for music teachers to bring their music programs to the attention of the school and the community, and to display the benefits that school music brings to students of all ages.” -NAfME

More simply put, it is a month where we celebrate being fortunate enough to have music in North Haledon Schools.  Throughout the month of March, we will be celebrating with a variety of different activities. To start off the month, we have just completed a MIOSM banner that will be hung in the hallway outside the music room for the entire month of March following this year’s theme “Music Changes Lives”.  During morning announcements we will be learning facts about why music is so important for learning. I have attached the list of facts to this letter so you can learn about the importance of music too!

I would also like to thank the community for being supportive of music in North Haledon Schools!

I hope you have a Musical March!

Musically,

Ms. L. Wormald
